Front Porch Lends itself to afternoon stories, teddy bear tea parties, painting on easels and quiet Conversations.
Front Lobby Staff and Parent washroom Main Office Administration office is supplied with phone, fax and computer with Internet. Primary Classrooms All Directresses (the Montessori name for teacher) hold qualifications as Montessori graduates. The original 17th century colour scheme will be maintained throughout our school. Each room will be painted with one of the original colours, using a different application for each, to ensure an artistic flair. Walls will all remain clear except for a few well selected framed prints of the masters such as: Monet, Degas and Rembrant. Each identified by Casa (Meaning House in Italian). Each room is outfitted with enormous windows and a (non-working) fireplace in each. The connecting walls will be opened up by through arches to allow the fireplaces to remain. This will allow children to flow freely through to the attached classroom, and give the child an opportunity to work in a selected atmosphere that is more in tone with their mood. The larger classrooms will be directed to culture, science, geography and practical life. Materials and exercises in this room will include: a real work bench with tools for the children to work on, a real vanity area to work on hygiene, a nature table displaying the world around us, various science experiments, our world, it's landforms and our atmosphere. The smaller classrooms will be the quieter classrooms designated for language and math.
Phonics is the focus in language with repetitive recognition skills being shown. Math takes very difficult concepts and simplifies them through manipulative skills. These skills allow a quick understanding of the concepts and help to achieve a firm understanding and faster learning process. Elementary Classrooms All Directresses will hold accreditation in Education with Montessori certification. All coursework parallels the Ontario Curriculum to successfully achieve standards with the ministry of education. All subject matter will be covered as mentioned in the Casa Classrooms with the addition of elementary coursework. Common Room Kitchen will be outfitted with a fridge for lunches, an oven, a 3-compartment sink, one hand sink, and cupboards. Two sizes of collapsible counters are available: Adult height and child height. This will enable the children to work hands on when creating meals with their directress; however, we will have the ability to make the kitchen functional for adults as well . Multi Purpose Room This room is used for extra curricular programs such as: music, visual art, French, dance. The tables used in this room heighten and lower for our various requirements within the music, art and French programs. Our botany table will have seating for 5. With minor cleanup the children will have the ability to dissect plants, do experimentation, transplant and start seedlings to ensure our landscaping blueprint is accomplished. Our Multipurpose Room also acts as our elementary lunchroom. This ensures our classrooms are kept clean. Children's Cubby Room Placed immediately at the back door for parent and child convenience. Isolated to reduce noise level through school hours. Each child has a designated area to keep personal belongings. This well organized area is comprised of an assortment of compartments and hooks to maintain tidiness. Washrooms Child size toilets and sinks. Washrooms are located close to the children's cubbies to maintain an even flow of traffic. Upon arrival, the child gets undressed, puts their inside shoes on, goes to the washroom, washes their hands and is ready for school. For outside preparation, the child goes to the washroom, gets dressed and is ready for outside play. Outdoor Play Area
We have one half acre of grass sectioned into two areas. First section has multipurpose recreational flooring (this simulates pavement used for basketball, volleyball, badminton and other recreational play). Grass covers the remainder of the remaining play area. This area is ideal for soccer, baseball, football, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing or creative play, with a friend.
Second play area is a free play area used for creative play, filled with a climber, tetherball, sand boxes, and creative, interactive landscaping. This will help to separate the higher activity level with the lower level. This will also allow structured programs to run separately from free play. Landscape Our horticulturist has recreated an interactive garden filled with flowers, herbs, and vegetables. The children when assisted by the Directress will help to plan the planting each year and the maintenance. Forest We have over one full acre of hardwood forest.
Great for nature observation, tapping maple trees, the recreation of a Native Village or the calming serenity of a nature walk.
Parking Lot Holds approximately twenty vehicles at one time. It is well lit for evening use.
